What Is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of energy healing considered an alternative medicine it was developed in 1922 by Mikao Usui, the word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy. "Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy. “Some people call it "Laying on of hands" others "Energy Healing" or "Energy Medicine.”
Reiki was first introduced into our western culture in 1937 by Mrs. Hawayo Takata, while visiting Japan she became very ill, her illness brought her to Chujiro Hayashi clinic in Tokyo, where she was healed and later trained with Chujiro Hayashi to become a Reiki practitioner.
After receiving her Reiki training, Hawayo returned home to Hawaii to open her own clinic, creating the first American Reiki clinic.
Since its inception Reiki has grown and evolved into various different styles and names but the Ki (life-force) energy is all the same.
Reiki is now on the forefront of "energy based medicine" and is recognized and used by many hospitals across the world,
including many renowned American hospitals such as John Hopkins, the Mayo Clinic, Duke & more. Reiki is also offered at many of our local Maine hospitals including Maine Medical Center. Not only is Reiki offered at hospitals, it has also been put to the test by hospitals such as Duke Integrative Medicine, New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center Campus, Yale and other’s. The studies found that Reiki is a beneficial treatment and when added to conventional medicine helps patients heal faster. Sheldon Marc Feldman MD, Chief, Division of Breast Surgery, New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, has even become an advocate for Reiki, speaking about it's effectiveness at a Reiki conference in 2012, promoting and sharing his professional accounts of his breast cancer patients who added Reiki to their treatment regiment.
How Does Reiki Work?
A Reiki practitioner works with your body’s natural energy system (life force) to help your body balance the flow of its natural energy.
Reiki energy works by flowing out of the Reiki practitioners hand chakras then into and throughout the clients energy field,
charging it with positive energy, raising the body’s natural vibratory level as it clears, balances, heals and restores
the bodies vital life force energy that is in and around the physical body.
The body’s energy field consist of the “Auric Field, Chakras, and meridians. Our bodies energy system has and uses a pathway system that flows very similar to the way our blood flows through our veins.
If this pathway gets blocked, energy cannot flow through our body properly possibly resulting in disease. Reiki clears, straightens and heals those energy paths, allowing your life force energy to flow in the healthy natural way it was intended to.

What To Expect At A Reiki Session:
Each client fills out an intake form, which is then gone over and discussed before the Reiki Healing session begins, this gives the practitioner valuable insight into what the client is looking for, (pain relief etc.) gives the client a chance to ask questions, address concerns and helps to build the client/practitioners rapport. I truly believe that having a trusting, calm and relaxing environment is a vital part of your healing process and strive to provide that rapport with all client's so that you will receive the healing session you deserve.
The client then lies on a massage table fully dressed with the exception of shoes, in a dimly lit room, relaxing music is played
to increase the relaxing experience of the session. The practitioner begins to perform Reiki on the client, beginning at the head and working down the body to the feet. The session can vary based on what the client’s needs are. An example of this would be if a client came in with cancer, pain etc. the practitioner would clear each chakra and then may concentrate on the specific area of concern. The client will experience a warming or cool energy coming from the practitioner’s hands as they work on the client, this is the "energy or KI." At the end of the session the practitioner will clear the client’s aura with either their hands or a crystal such as a selenite wand. The session may vary slightly based on the practitioner’s individual style and discernment but will always put the client’s needs first. Crystal healing grids enhances Reiki & can be added to a session.
Pets Love Reiki Too:
Help the pet in your life with Reiki. Reiki can offer your pet healing on a new deeper level, Reiki can help them through times of discomfort, stress, illness heal after surgery or injury. All living beings have an energy system, just like the human body animals have an auric field, chakras & meridians and therefore they too benefit from Reiki. Do to the natural high energy animals possess they require shorter Reiki sessions than their humans do, therefore we offer short Reiki sessions, if your pet chooses to stay longer that is fine with us.
It is our policy not to force Reiki on any living species therefore animal Reiki sessions are based on how long your fur baby will receive the Reiki energy. Many animals will simply get up and walk away when they have received enough and I will always respect your pets individual choice whether that is 5 min or 55 min. (Of course I will stop at the allotted 20 min. time frame if their human wants us to)
An ancient gift from up above, radiates out from our our hands,
applied to each with love.
We are but the circuit to help the body mend.
It’s not us who stand as healers, it’s the energy.
Our Reiki Hands stand ready for what service they may do.
For when we are helping others, we feel a healing too.
